The 2016 NationaLease Financial Officers Meeting was held on October 17-18, at the historic Seelbach Hilton in downtown Louisville, KY. Truck Services, Inc., a NationaLease Member; Donna Blanc, Hub Truck NationaLease; Kevin Callaghan, Miller NationaLease; and Roseangeli Ayson, Velocity Truck Rental and Leasing, a NationaLease Member. She then introduced this year’s meeting Chair, Lucy Boujaklian of Suppose-U-Drive Truck Rental Service, a NationaLease Member.

Lucy began the meeting with introductions, then invited Dean Vicha, President of NationaLease, to provide an update of the initiatives that NationaLease currently has underway, as well as a look ahead at next year. Dean introduced the next speaker, Ralph Ross, District Director for the SBA Kentucky, who shared information on SBA loans and line of credit programs, free consulting services, and other federal programs available to small businesses. Ted Guy, Executive Director from EY, and Greg Greenwood, Tax Partner from EY, followed to share their expertise on the upcoming changes to accounting regulations and tax laws. Dan North, Economist with Euler Hermes, also joined the group to comment on the economic obstacles and opportunities that businesses will face this year and into the future, and how to prepare for them.

The afternoon session continued with Michael Henniger and Jeremy Coker, Permanent Placement Consultants with Experis, who shared how to build an effective recruiting plan to address the challenges in hiring for positions from technicians and drivers to salespeople and administrative staff. Next, the group heard from a speaker who they have invited back several times because of his extensive knowledge in employment laws and regulations. Neil Dishman, Partner with Jackson Lewis, shared some Employment Law Updates, including the impact of the DOL changes scheduled to take place on December 1, 2016. The afternoon wrapped up with a lively Best Practices Round Table, where members shared questions, concerns, and best practices on a variety of topics ranging from compensation structures to health insurance. The evening concluded with a dinner in the hotel for all attendees.

Day 2 of the meeting began with a session on ACA, PEOs, and their impact on businesses. Steve Burger, Regional Sales Executive for ADP, shared information on an option that is proving to be very beneficial to many companies. Joe Puff, Vice President of Truck Technology & Maintenance, and Jane Clark followed with details on NationaLease’s new technology offering—NationaLease Fleet 20/20TM and the new Centralized Billing program. Following Joe and Jane, the group heard a presentation on Risk Management: Internal Controls, Fraud Prevention, and Cybersecurity from Jim Tencza, Director of Assurance Services; Nick Lynch, Associate Director of Forensic Accounting and Litigation Support Services; and Jason Miller, Director of Business and Technology Consulting from Dean Dorton. Jane wrapped up this year’s meeting with an update on new programs and services available through NationaLease and an introduction of the new members.
