Who You Choose for a Technology Partner Definitely Matters

With the speed at which technology is moving, how do you know what best suits your needs?

Technology, especially new truck technology can be very expensive. Making the wrong decision can cost you dearly, not just in money but also in the potential for disruption. That’s why it’s absolutely essential that you choose the right technology partner before you make any purchasing decisions.

I addressed this issue in a recent IdeaXchange blog. Although I had written a number of blogs on new technology for fleets and how that technology is constantly evolving, I hadn’t discussed one of the most important points…finding the right partner. Otherwise, fleet owners and managers can find that the technology they’ve invested so heavily in has already been surpassed by new enhancements and newer versions.

One of the important things to remember is that there is no single solution that fits every business’s needs. Every fleet is unique, with different needs and requirements, so when looking for a technology partner, you need to team up with someone who totally understands your specific business; someone who will recommend technology that is appropriate for your fleet and your business. The first and most obvious place to start is with your truck OEMs. Since they’re the original manufacturers, they’ll know how their vehicle’s performance will satisfy your needs.

But when looking at technology, it’s important to remember that it’s your drivers and technicians that will be working with these new systems and vehicles; so it’s vital that your technology partner be able to not only integrate this technology into your operations, but that they can also communicate effectively with your employees, training them in all aspects of the new technology.

As I stated in the IdeaXchange blog, while time is something that is precious to all of us, you should take time to find the right technology partner, one that’s the right fit to ensure a positive return on your investment in both time and money.
