Highlights of the 2014 Canadian Leadership Summit

Suppliers share the latest advancements in products and services at the 2014 Canadian Leadership Summit.

The 2014 Canadian Leadership Summit took place in Winnipeg, MB on November 3-5. Grant Bradshaw of Transolutions Leasing and Rental, a NationaLease Member, this year’s meeting chair, kicked off the meeting and introduced Dean Vicha, President of NationaLease. Dean shared his vision for the Canadian membership and commented on the tremendous growth of the group since he first attended the meeting just a few years ago. Dean then introduced Craig Bennett, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Utility Trailer, who shared his insights on the current state of the Trailer Industry and the exciting technology advancements in place and on the way. Jane Clark, Vice President of Member Services, gave the group an update on programs available to the members including the new Emergency Services and Fuel app, the NationaLease Careers site, and a new Mentor program. Brad Theissen, Vice President and General Manager of Freightliner Canada, then gave an update on current and predicted capital equipment market conditions, as well as exciting new technology enhancements on the horizon, including the truck of the future. Next, Mike Hirt of Freightliner Manitoba shared a dealer’s perspective on how leasing companies and dealerships can work together to minimize downtime when your truck has to go to the dealer, focusing on the importance of technician training.

The afternoon session began with a panel of members who took questions from the group to tackle some of those frequently asked questions about a range of subjects, including maintenance practices, purchasing, and how to grow your leasing business. Grant Bradshaw moderated the panel and Stephane Godbout of Location Brossard NationaLease and Alex Novak of Location Robert NationaLease joined him in fielding questions. Joe Puff, Vice President of Truck Technology & Maintenance with NationaLease, followed to discuss the newly created Repair Advocacy Program. Joe also shared some of the latest best practices for maintaining vehicles. Mike Dearden, President of Dearden & Associates Inc., shared an update on the current U.S./Canada cross-border initiatives and their impact on leasing companies. The day’s general session concluded with an update on National Accounts from NationaLease Senior Vice President of Sales, Joe Gallick.

The evening’s activities continued with a Technology Fair that highlighted the latest in products and services from NationaLease’s many committed supplier partners.

The second day of the meeting began with Rob Garcia, NationaLease Vice President of New Business Development, who gave the members a review of the key topics mentioned by suppliers in the previous day’s Supplier Round Table.

The morning’s session continued with the Member Forum, an open member discussion that touched on a variety of topics from capital equipment to purchasing programs. Rob Garcia and Jane Clark closed out the morning session with an update on Supply Management and NationaLease Rebates.

The afternoon session consisted of a series of suppliers each giving a quick overview of their program offerings. EkoStinger, PACCAR Parts, Class C Solutions Group, Michelin, International, Bridgestone Commercial Solutions, Continental, Petro-Canada, Belron Canada, and Freightliner Pinnacle each presented the latest in new technology, products, or service offerings available to the NationaLease membership.
The 2014 Canadian Leadership Summit ended with the Closing Awards Dinner. Stephane Godbout presented Lyn Coughlan from Petro-Canada a memento on behalf of the NationaLease organization to honor her upcoming retirement and thank her for her years of service in the NationaLease supplier base. Jane Clark then introduced a brand new award—the NationaLease Most Valuable Performance Award. This award is meant to recognize those Canadian members who have had outstanding performance in areas of business growth, reciprocal service, member participation, and purchasing within the NationaLease System. The first two NationaLease MVPs to be awarded were:

  • Tandet NationaLease
  • Location Brossard NationaLease

The Awards Dinner closed with the presentation of the top Canadian Supplier of the Year for 2014. This award is given based on votes of the NationaLease Canadian membership. This year’s top Canadian Supplier was Petro-Canada.

The 2015 Canadian Leadership Summit will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Montreal, QC on November 3-5.
