Safety technology is a good investment for fleets, says Jane Clark in her latest IdeaXchange blog.
Fleets everywhere find themselves dealing with rapidly changing advances in technology, whether it’s new tech in the vehicles themselves or technology that affects other aspects of the business. Jane Clark, VP of Member Services for NationaLease, regularly writes a blog dealing with trucking industry issues for the IdeaXchange column in FleetOwner.
In a recent blog, she noted that whether they like it or not, fleets have to face the fact that technology is here to stay. She further indicates that rather than fear it, fleets should look at one of the most important benefits of the new technology: greater safety. Here are some impressive statistics Clark cites:
- According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, lane departure warning systems could reduce up to 2,500 single vehicle road departure incidents, up to 1,300 roll overs, and up to 2,233 lane departures.
- Collision avoidance systems could result in a 20% to 25% reduction in rear end collision fatalities and injuries.
She makes it clear that “safety first” is the right way for fleets to look at new technology.
