Our tribute for National Truck Drivers Appreciation Week continues with this submission from Chonda Swanson of Signature Service, a NationaLease Member (S&S Transport). She brings our attention to Jason Markert, who found a second career as a Class-A CDL driver and volunteers his time to teach high school students about commercial vehicle safety. Thank you, Jason!
After serving in the U.S. Air Force for many years, Jason used his GI Bill to start a new career as a Class-A CDL driver. He applied to S&S a day before all other graduates, and came in with a smile on his face and excited to work for a trucking company that would help him advance. Since he started with us over three years ago, Jason has gone above and beyond for this company. He is flexible in his schedule and is never picky about what loads he is assigned. He maintains his Hazmat endorsement and passport so he can take loads into Canada regularly. He is always eager to learn more and to help others. Jason also stays in contact with many of our drivers as an active member on our driver committee, which provides a forum for driver concerns, comments, and suggestions regarding dispatch and safety. Jason has also been a participant in the NDMCA truck driving championships for the last two years and was able to earn a 4th-place prize this year. He has also taken it upon himself to start working with the local high school in his hometown to help educate students in drivers ed about commercial vehicle safety. He brings his truck in and sets up multiple items around the truck so students can learn about blind spots and safety while sharing the road with commercial vehicles.
We really appreciate all of his hard work and love seeing his big smile every time he walks in to see us. We feel he should be recognized for his hard work, dedication to the company, and for his positive attitude. Thanks for all you do, Jason!
