NationaLease’s 72nd Annual Meeting, “Make No Little Plans,” was held on September 18-19 at the Four Seasons in Chicago.

Jane Clark, Vice President of Member Services for NationaLease, welcomed the group to Chicago, the birthplace of NationaLease, and charged them to make big plans, as the founding members did 72 years ago. Jane then introduced NationaLease President Dean Vicha who kicked off this year’s meeting and asked the group for their participation in helping to set the direction for NationaLease for the coming years. Dean also welcomed keynote speaker Frank Abagnale, cyber-security and fraud expert, and subject of the film “Catch Me If You Can” starring Leonardo Di Caprio as Frank. He shared the story of his life, as well as practical tips to avoid being the victim of cyber-crime and identity theft.

The afternoon sessions continued with breakouts on Extended Warranties with Joe Puff, Vice President of Truck Technology and Maintenance for NationaLease, Fred Bentley, Bentley Truck Service, a NationaLease Member, and Vic Corley, Vice President of LTG Lonestar NationaLease; the Used Truck Market with Dale Tower, Vice President of Remarketing for NationaLease; and Insurance Coverage with Danny Badovinac of Cottingham and Butler. The evening concluded with a Trade and Technology Show and Reception featuring many of NationaLease’s preferred supplier partners.

Day 2 of the meeting began with Dean Vicha welcoming the Nominating Committee Chair, Tom Brown, President of Brown NationaLease, who nominated John Congdon, Chairman of Old Dominion NationaLease, and Bill Hicks to replace outgoing board members. The group unanimously approved these two nominations.

Joe Gallick, Senior Vice President of Sales for NationaLease, followed with an in-depth interview with Reyes Holdings, as Paul Rizzo, Vice President of Operations for Reyes Holdings, shared his insights into his company and their partnership with NationaLease. Neil Dishman, Partner with Jackson Lewis, then joined the group to shed some light on the upcoming changes to Employment Law, especially regarding the Department of Labor’s upcoming December 1 overtime rule. The morning session continued with an update on what’s happening on “The Hill.” Truck Rental and Leasing Association’s President & CEO Jake Jacoby shared what TRALA is doing to help protect those in our industry and what pending issues to watch.

The afternoon’s interactive sessions were led by the chairs of the four Board of Directors committees:  Reciprocal Service with Jim Airoldi of Airoldi Brothers NationaLease, National Accounts with Tom Fleming of Aim NationaLease, Purchasing with Andrew Flynn of TCI Leasing/Rentals, a NationaLease Member, and Executive Committee with Dave Renz, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. These sessions encouraged members to share their insights and recommendations in each of these areas to help guide the direction of NationaLease in the future.
