On August 20 & 21, 2015, in Greenville, SC, the NationaLease Young Executives Club members held their 12th meeting. The NYEC reinforces the relationships between these current and future leaders of NationaLease. The group took the opportunity to add a unique supplier-based session to their meeting this time around with an educational trip to Michelin North America. Mark Kath, Ty Cobb, and the folks at Michelin North America graciously hosted NYEC members for a wonderful welcome reception, three-part educational tour of their facilities, and use of their Training Facility for their meeting.
The tour kicked off Thursday morning with a visit to the Michelin Laurens Proving Grounds where tires are tested for noise, adherence on wet surfaces, gravel endurance, off road inclines, mud traction, vehicle dynamics like high speed lane change, and drift. The NYEC members got the opportunity to get hands-on and learned a valuable lesson about the impact of tire replacement and location while driving on their wet track. The group also got the chance to take a spin in Michelin’s new off-road feature—an adrenaline-charged ride in a Ford Raptor. Thursday afternoon, members met with a Michelin engineer who shared valuable knowledge and tools to help participants recognize and analyze irregular tire wear. The group enjoyed an intimate dinner at Larkin’s on the River, hosted by Michelin, in downtown Greenville, and kept the networking going well after the day’s events ended.
The tour continued Friday morning with an expansive look at their product during a visit to their plant in Spartanburg, SC. After a welcome and introduction, safety protocol and a history of Michelin’s Plant US3, the NYEC members were split into groups for an in-depth look at the production of Michelin tires during the plant tour. Following the interesting plant tour, the group continued their extended meeting Friday afternoon with a discussion of each member’s Business Outlook. A discussion where the group shared their experiences in their marketplace, as well as what they’ve been facing with rental utilization and the competition. The afternoon continued with a presentation regarding recruiting and retention from NationaLease’s own, Jane Clark, Vice President of Member Services who has an extensive background in recruiting. Wrapping up, NYEC members continued their candid conversation with an open discussion regarding challenges they face in sales, management and operations.
The meeting was closed with an invitation to the next NYEC meeting to be held in February 4-5th in San Diego, CA. Anyone interested in finding out more about becoming a part of the NationaLease Young Executives Club contact Kelly Kordowski at firstname.lastname@example.org or 630.925.7726.
