Making Fleet Maintenance Improvements, One Small Step at a Time

Making big changes can be quite expensive, but you don’t have to spend a lot to see significant positive changes.

In a recent IdeaXchange blog, Jane Clark cautioned businesses to not expect to find that one “Big Thing that will suddenly make us 50 percent more productive.” In reality, it’s often smaller moves and changes in processes that can result in greater paybacks for the efforts expended.

Jane speaks about incremental changes made by NationaLease members that have resulted in greater productivity for the company. They did this by conducting a “lean analysis,” looking to eliminate waste both in time and money in many of their processes. The analysis can often take considerable time, but the outcome can result in the small steps with bigger results mentioned above.

The one instance Jane reveals involves PM/oil change. By implementing the steps that resulted from the process analysis, Jim Ryan, vice president of operations and Brian Roberts director of maintenance, both of Kris-way Truck Leasing Inc, a NationaLease member, said they were able to save 50 minutes per PM/oil change.

Find the secret to these and other small steps that can lead to big savings by reading her full blog.
