HR Summit Wraps Up Successful Sessions in Nashville

NationaLease held its second annual Human Resources Summit on July 10-11 at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville. Jane Clark, Vice President of Member Services for NationaLease, welcomed the attendees, then introduced this year’s meeting chairman, Steve Tyner, Vice President of Human Resources with Conway Beam NationaLease. Steve started the meeting with introductions of all the attendees, then got the first session underway with Paul Nowicki, Director of Sales and Operations, and Art Lon, Major Accounts Manager for TransTechs, who shared the basics of online recruiting, job optimization, and candidate attraction techniques. Next on the agenda was a presentation from Jason Banuski, President of HR One. Jason discussed how to successfully implement one of the most important documents in every business, the Employee Handbook.  Tom Hutchinson, Vice President & Principal with Axion RMS, Ltd., continued the program by sharing his insight on how we can cope with the current uncertainty, as well as the likely outcomes with the Affordable Care Act. Jane finished out the morning sessions by sharing some tools and resources available to NationaLease members to help with recruiting and retention along with other ways NationaLease Home Office can support the members.

After lunch, Chris Disantis, Director of Training & Field Technical Support with Aim NationaLease, joined the group to share how to build an apprenticeship program for techs. Then the group dived in to some challenging issues in employment law, starting with working wearables. Tawny Alvarez, Associate with Verrill Dana, joined the group to share her expertise on this subject, then followed it up with a session on medical marijuana and the pertinent issues in the future of marijuana, both in and out of the workplace. The afternoon session concluded with a Best Practices Round Table at which the members shared their questions and best practices with each other on topics ranging from compliance to employee assistance programs. Attendees enjoyed dinner at one of the resort’s signature restaurants, Cascades American Café.

Day two of the meeting started by welcoming back Tawny Alvarez to cover two more issues in employment law—preparing for an I-9 Audit and creating a disciplinary action plan. For the final session of the meeting, Dick Finnegan, CEO with C-Suite Analytics and back by popular demand, shared “How to Raise Your Employee Engagement Score.” Dick discussed the startling figures on the lack of employee engagement, the costs associated with low employee engagement, and what we can do to beat the statistics.

Next year’s NationaLease Human Resources Summit will be held on July 16-17, 2018, at the Riverside Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
